Don't even THINK of buying VSNL!: Escape from Tata Indicom Part 3

The woes from Tata Indicom continue, prompting a third post on the same issue at Clearway! Here goes the script of the next e-mail to Tata Indicom from out Tata victim!
Im tired of lodging complaints with you folks!

Tell me something, is this an ISP or a bunch of Jokers sitting out there, talking merrily to whoever speaks on phone and sending the same set of e-mails in response to every complaint, irrespective of what the matter is or who the sender is?

It's the same routinie these days:

I lodge complaint
You give me a complaint number
I wait for your call
I call you again
You assure me of the best of services and advertise about your dial up connections
I mail you and blast you
You reply coolly as if you have got an award from me
The service is up for a couple of hours
The service goes dead
Time for another complaint!

I need a solution. Or at least, give me an answer: Do you provide internet services at all? Or did you get the money from me to call me up and mail me? How many times do I have to complain in a day? Dont you get sick of giving the same dumb responses everytime I complain? Well, I certainly am getting sick at the way your company, or the bunch of folks that call themselves a company, works!

Your Service Enginieer poses as if he is the busiest person on the planet and asks me over phone if the net is on! And there is absolutely no use shooting mails to you folks! Because, I know that even if the net functions for a couple of hours, it's going to go dead again and I would have to "Complain" to you yet another time!

I understand you do not have any other job than sitting in front of PC's in Whitefield, and typing some stuff and dispatching them to inboxes. Lucky you! Unfortunately, we poor subscribers have other works and some of them happen to depend on something called the "Internet", a term which Im not sure if you are aware of!

The so-called Broadband connection that you advertise of is something more than a couple of green lights constantly blinking atop the modem!

The link that I have provided here is a free service for you:
http://www.google.co.in/blogsearch?hl=en&q=tata+indicom

As I told you in my last mail, I have already put the issue on-line and your High Level Service is getting popular on the same Internet that is your bread and butter. And this mail goes on-line as well, for prospective victims to Escape from Tata Indicom! This would continue till my Internet gets working continuously for at least a week, without going dead. Or, get me Mr Ratan Tata on phone - it's high time he knew of what he heads!

PS. I would definitely see if I could get this on Main Stream Media!

Hi,

I am a Manager in a MNC company, i too faced similar problems with Tata Indicom. Finally i disconnected the connection, sad part is when they were very particular about taking the rental charges. I had the connection for 2 months, and last 15 days i had called them EVERYDAY for connection not available. I refuse to pay them the last month bill :-)

Good that you chose the post-paid scheme. And you dont have to pay the rent in any case. I would suggest you boycott Tata by all means possible - be it in mobile, or cars or Tea or steel! And convince your people to do that too.

If possible, work hard for your company, become its CEO and take over VSNL ;-) You are in an MNC anyway. You may then close VSNL down and sell its bits and pieces to some corporate eagle. Believe me, you can do it. Just try :-p Tata should not exist in India.

VSNL without consumer awareness will only keep on growing and I sincerly hope to curb their growth for the ridiculous service they provide..and I am writing this email in utter frustration) I have marked a CC to their customer care..but i am sure it does not bother them..since they get 1000s of such complain every minutes

This mail is sent to all of you in my mailbox as a caution against using any kind of services of VSNL. They think that customers can be taken for a ride and no one will come to know since they are very big...today i feel like starting this chain mail and letting them know that if the customers wish they can pull their entire business down.

A request to all of those who are even thinking about going to vsnl for their internet or any service...do not even attempt to approach them..they are the worst internet service providers in the country

they are not internet service providers ....they are jokers with their call centre people just making mockery of the whole business with no suprevision, lying all the time and no commitment.......there are two complains pending for more than 40 Hours..my net is not working and VSNL has not even called up to check..and and their dumb call centre and their superiors do not have the time to attend to us except saying that your complain is being attended to....recent complain number 135940

I also want you to look at the following messages of complains on the internet with which they are sitting doing nothing..all similar to mine... click on the link and there are thousand of complains..... I think VSNL or Tata as a company should go down the drain and i need your help in spearding this message to all ....DONT EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM TATA INDICOM

I am another victim of the so called TATA INDICOM broadband connection. They got Rs.3500 on the first day (Apr 29 2006). It has been 3 months and they have just laid cables. Being fed up with their service, i lodged a cancellation request - but they say that cables have been laid and they cant cancel the connection.

Whenever i call Customer support, they say the connection will be provided at the earliest.

I am totally fed up. Is there any ways these ppl can improve?

I have never been to a consumer court. Can anybody tell if i can lodge a case against these idiots.

All the ISP's are illegally Snooping over the connections of its customer.

If you are a small business owner , i would say do not connect to the internet using Indian ISPs.

Get a very good firewall and do not let the ISP personal handle your computer, if you need badly to connect.

These Black sheeps sitting at ISPs think they are the Holy saviours or something!!! fuck them..

Hi,

same story from me too

I had applied for a connection 5 months back, they came and dropped some wires after 1.5 months. Later we had called up the customer care and registered for cancellation, so far we had got 7 compliant numbers nothing is happening,

We haven't got our money back. First time we called them, they gave us a compliant number, then call VSNL office gving a wrong number, then send a mial to customerservice and now asking us to come in person to the office in WhiteField, Bangalore.

Very Very bad service....

Don't know whether we will be getting our money back or not....

Tata Indicom is definitely the worst of the lot. It has become a regular routine in my life to lodge complaints. I have got so many complaint numbers that I need to hire a secretary to maintain them. Nobody ever calls back, nobody ever responds if you send them a mail to customer_care@vsnl.co.in. These people should be ashamed of their service. I am quitting VSNL this month itself.

Given below are my recent experiences with this pathetic company. See the utter disgraceful behaviour they have towards their customers.

By the way, they have blocked this blog on their network. I am accessing it through proxy.

Axel,
Bangalore.

My Emails to them follow....

Another try by guessing the email ids of some people who have been blessed with top posts of a public sector (vsnl) which has been stolen from the public. Let me see if anyone has some ethics to respond or atleast forward to their top guys who hide behind call centers.

My apologies to people who may find this inconvenient. But I hope you can see the kind of frustration this company gives it's customers.

Still nothing happening??

How much longer will you continue with this unethical, pathetic and careless behavior towards a customer. Why don't you contact me or provide me some contact information at your office.

Utterly miserable attitude.

Are You doing something about this or not? Atleast provide us the Name/Email/Phone Number of your Manager so that we can contact him as a last resort before initiating Legal Action against your company for all the inconvenience and losses caused to us.

Thank you for your reply.

But why are you keeping me under plans that do not exist?

The point is,
Did you inform us of new tarrif when you launched new plans for us to go and change the plans ourselves?

If not, it is your duty to inform us if you launch new plans with Same services but at a lower price and not bill us at higher rates. This is nothing but a case of cheating.

Either you are arrogant or stupid to send us this kind of a reply after reading my emails. Read again below and understand correctly. I have clearly told you in my emails that since you did not inform us about new plans and removal of old plans from your website, it is your job to change the plan and credit our accounts of all the excessive charges since the new plans were launched. Until then, we will pay you at the higher price if it helps pay your salaries by cheating customers like this.

WE ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE THE PLAN OURSELF. YOU DO IT AND CREDIT US OF ALL THE EXCESS CHARGES SINCE NEW PLANS WERE LAUNCHED.

Secondly, THE CONNECTION xxxxxx@eth.net is still not active it has not worked for 5 months. Until when will you take our money for doing nothing from your end.

Have some sense and if your company still has some face, Let your manager call me if he has any name or face and not hide behind customer service emails and phones which are attended by human robots.

Call Me: 9xxxx / 94xxxxx

Importance: High

Dear Sir / Madam,

I have addressed this email to whichever ids that i could find and expect you kind people to forward this to a concerned person at the highest level in your company since this is a desperate effort on my part to get this message across to the right person. please forgive me for taking your precious time with this but i hope you will understand the frustration.

I hope that i get a reply from you and our problems are addressed below.

1. Our connection xxxxxx@eth.net existed in koramangala prior to May 2006 and we shifted our office to jayanagar in May 2006 and applied for shifting of connection. The connection was shifted in July 2006 after 2 months and we were billed during the shifting period too. However we were credited part of the billed amount after complaining about it.

The problem is that since the connection has been shifted it has not worked at all and maximum time it has worked at a stretch is about 24 hours only and totally about 7 days only. That is, it has worked only 7 days in a 5 months period. Whenever we complain to your call-center, the complaint is forwarded to your koramangala people while our office is in jayanagar since May 2006. Your online system also shows the old address.

In spite of no service we have paid all your bills. Yet our connection is kept down all the time and you do not have the courtesy to respond to the customer.

2. I have complained numerous times to customer care that while you offer a plan called business plus 3000 which costs 1200 per month, you bill us 2500 per month for the same service saying that our plan is called expplus 3000lore . The explore plus 3000 plan does not even exist under your plans in change your plan section of your website.

The problem here is that, if you expect the customer to change the plan himself, you shold have the courtesy to inform us when you introduce new plans with same features but at a lower price and not greedily charge more. Yes I know i can goto change your plan section of your website and change my plan. But I will not do that since i expect you to do that automatically when you scrap old plans and provide new tarrif for the same features and not charge us higher price for non-existent plans. I will need a strong case if i need to approach a legal forum against these charges and hence I am paying you at higher prices which i expect to get back legally at least.

My request to you here is to provide me a credit of all the higher tarrif that you have charged since the day the business pluss 3000 plan was introduced into my account.

similarly, I have another account with the same problem which has a login id xxxx@eth.net and the plan there is explore plus 1000 charged at 925 per month while you have a new tarrif caled business plus 1000 with a tarrif of 650.

As I have indicated above I expect you to credit both my accounts of the excess charges that have been billed since new plans were introduced and charge me at the existing tarrif henceforth and secondly, I expect you to provide me a working connection at the account xxxxxx@eth.net and update your records to have the new address of our office and credit our account of the non-working days of about 5 months in which we have paid you all the bills and complained several times and still there is no action by your company.

As a proof of my complaint, You can see the usage details of this account and also the complaints placed at your call center.

Hoping to find some solution and a response in the form of an ethical phone call from you.

Regards,
Axxxxx.

"The old order changeth, yielding place to new".

The aforesaid expression of Tennyson is highly relevant to English academic circles of the country, because a debate is going on for the future of English Studies in India. The various English Departments of Indian Universities are agog with this issue.

One of the major issues discussed is that in the interpretation of English literary texts, we should come out of colonial mindset. In the dissection of the text readers, teachers, students and researchers should not employ Western critical tools like catharsis, fancy, imagination, Impressionism, Expressionism, new criticism, formalism, structuralism, neo-historicism, post-structuralism, deconstruction and reader response theory etc. Rather Indian critical theories like Rasa, Alamkara, Dhwani and Vakrokti should be employed for the close analysis of the English texts. The propagators of this logic base their arguments on Post-Colonial thought of Edward said, Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak and Gauri Vishwanathan. The supporters of Indian response to English Literature, in the manner of Edward Said, emphasize that there is a political subtext of the main stream western writing. Moreover, Foucoult's theory of power game shows that power strategies lie at the base of every text. Similarly Gramsci has also talked about western hegemony vis-à-vis literary texts. Prof MKNaik in his essay 'Searching For the Crow's Teeth: A critique of Nativism' has summarized Gramsci's concept of hegemony and thinks that it is "inducing the conquered to accept the ways of thought, beliefs, culture and the system of values of the conqueror". The concepts of Gramsci and Foucoult may be seen in the colonization of Indian mind.

This colonization of the Indian mind began with Macaulay's celebrated Minute which declared that it was necessary and possible "to make natives of this country good English scholars and that to this end our efforts ought to be directed". In the same vein Lord Bentick resolved that "the great object of the British Government ought to be the promotion of European literature and science among the natives of India and all funds appropriated for the purpose of education would be best employed on English education alone".

So, it is obvious that European literary ideals were thrust on us and the need of the hour is to decolonise our English Studies by judging English literary texts not by European critical tools, but by Indian critical theories. Moreover, every western critical practise has its better parallel in Indian poetics.

Another major task of post-colonialists in India is to remove certain colonial English texts from the syllabi of Indian Universities, because these texts were used by the colonizer to subvert us, alter our thought-process and induce us into believing 'their' superiority and 'our' inferiority. Some literary texts are completely irrelevant to India. Take for example the licentious Restoration comedies of manners, obscene and vulgar novels of sex-maniac DH Lawrence and the fleshly poetry of the Pre-Raphaelites. These authors do hurt pious sensibility, still they are taught to the impressionable minds of Post-Graduate students of English Literature. The alien authors have no appeal for us; they do not affect our society. It shows that the colonial hangover is still not out. Then, certain texts do talk about English society of various ages. Why should we study about the legal system of England during the early twentieth century in the parochial works of Galsworhy? In place of these colonial texts, literature of the colonies should be promoted. Even regional Indian writers in English translation may be prescribed. Third world authors should be dissected. It will be the true unfurling of the tricolour, otherwise we will still be slaves after so many years of Independence. In fact, in place of English Literature (Literature of England), we should have Literature in English (Language).

There is another aspect of the colonized Indian mind. Works of original research are being produced by Indian scholars on English authors. But, the teachers, students and researchers are shy of quoting from them because of this subjugated mindset. For them AC Bradley's word on Shakespearean tragedy is final. What is it? Sheer colonization of the mind. So, Indian literary psyche needs to be decolonized.

But, there is another side of the coin too. Excessive emphasis on Indian or Eastern response to English literature should not make us less eclectic and more obscurantist. The world has become a global village, where all the cultures and nationalities do intermingle. In this age of globalization, this stress on ethnocentric or jingoistic national approach may create havoc for us, as new ideas from the west may not find a place in our hearts. We may become iron curtain civilization.

Moreover, Indian response to English Literature should not become just Hindu response. India is a cauldron of various cultures. 'Melting pot' or 'salad bowl' are the appropriate phrases for hybrid Indian diversity. So, this Indian response should include Islamic, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Dalit responses too.

GN Devy in his Sahitya Akademi Award Winning Book After Amnesia: Tradition and Change in Literary Criticism (Orient Longman, 1992) has focused the importance of critical tools of regional Indian languages. In this book, which may be called "the Bible of Nativism", GN Devy stresses on the significance of regional languages. So, Indian response to English Literature should be very broad and all inclusive.

In the end , we may say that for the proper enjoyment of literature, we should get rid of both Eastern and Western critical prejudices. A true devotee of literature should try to control his personal prejudices and cranks and endeavour for objective dissection of the "words on the page".

Besides, while the orientalists may stand against Literature of England, they can never do so against English language, because it is a world language. Without its study, we can not progress in the fields of science, psychology, engineering and economics etc., as the medium of all great research is English language . Shirin Kudchedkar in 'Introduction' to her book Readings in English Language Teaching in India (Orient Longman,2002) has outlined the importance of English Language teaching in these words:

...English plays a very important role in education, business and administration. It is the medium of instruction for higher education-both academic and technological. Those who seek jobs in private companies or professions must be proficient in English. It is recognized as an official language for purposes of administration at the national level. It would follow that it should be considered as a second language rather than a foreign language.

So, my final submission is that in Indian Universities, English should be taught without any western or eastern prejudices. Secondly, in place of Literature of England, the study of English Language should be promoted. For that purpose, language laboratories should be established in the colleges an Universities. These labs will teach the students the minutest intricacies of the language.

I am also a victim of those fuckers. I paid for 6 months and got the connection. At the time of giving connection, they said it can be shifted to any location where company operates. After a month, I had to change my society and move to a different building in the same locality. Now the company ppl are saying that there are no connection in the building so I can't get a connection there. The assholes are also not ready to return my money. Fuck the bastards...
